Tobacco Prices Could Be Rising

In an effort to help uninsured people get the health insurance they need, more than twelve states are proposing higher tobacco taxes. Wisconsin is pushing for $1.25 per pack hike and Iowa, Maine and Maryland want a $1 per pack increase. Since 2002, 42 states have increased cigarette taxes resulting in billions of dollars for the uninsured. In 2006 alone, $14 billion was raised.

If you are looking to stop smoking, this could definitely be the time to do it.

Although these proposals have been made, they are not guaranteed to pass. In fact, these tax hikes are being met with plenty of resistance in some states. They’re calling it discriminatory…having a small minority group fund a program to benefit the entire state. “…the smokers have paid enough,” states Steve Kottak of R.J. Reynolds.

Whether smokers have paid enough or not, chances are that if it goes to a vote, it’s gonna pass by an overwhelming majority. Of course, this is just my opinion.

Until next time,

Kudos to Washington DC Lawmakers

I heard on the news this morning that lawmakers in Washington DC are going to make it against the law to smoke cigarettes if you have minors in the car with you. I can’t say how much this pleases me.

As a child of a smoker who smoked in the car with me ALL THE TIME, I can tell you that although children may not say anything about it, they don’t like it and (obviously) will remember it for the rest of their lives.

Not only that, second-hand smoke has major consequences on children. You can read about that on my Second-Hand Smoke page. Further, it doesn’t just have a physical impact on children. The psychological impacts run deep as well. Read about that on my Smoking and Children page.

I understand that three or four other states already have this law in effect. Now let’s hope, for the sake of our children, that they pass this law nationwide soon!

That’s it for now,

Smokers Can Be Really Stupid

I was reading through the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and found an article about how cutting down on smoking doesn’t help your odds of dying early. For instance, a pack-a-day smoker who cuts down to 1/2 pack-a-day has the same odds of dying early as he did when he smoked a whole pack a day.

I mentioned this to a friend of mine who recently cut down on his smoking in order to try and help his body. When I told him about this story, I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard his response. “Well crap, I might as well go back to smoking a whole pack a day, then.”

OK, I understand how he could have been upset that the work he put into cutting down was all for nothing, but in my mind I was thinking that if he cut his smoking in half once, why not do it again? He already did it once so his confidence would have been high. But,alas…instead of doing this, he quickly decided to forget cutting down altogether.

Stupid.

Until next time,

Nicotine Replacement Therapy Does Not Work

Thousands of people attempt using Nicotine Replacement Therapy, or NRT, every single day. Unfortunately, NRT is not the cure-all that everyone thinks it is. Whether you use patches, gums, pills, inhalers, lozenges or hand lotion, only about 7% succeed. I’ve written an article detailing why NRT doesn’t work. It’s titled, “Why Nicotine-Based Stop Smoking Products Just Don’t Work,” and you can read it on our Stop Smoking Articles web page.

I think you’ll be surprised at what you’ll learn in this article.

I don’t have much time today, I just wanted to let you know about this article that I posted today.

Until next time,

Allen Jones

New Years Resolution a Distant Memory?

Well, it’s January 5th now and I’m sure most of you who swore up and down that you would stop smoking for New Years have miserably failed!

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Studies show that a vast majority of smokers who attempt to quit on a whim, such as a New Years Resolution, fail within the first 5 days.

So this got me wondering…why is the failure rate so high? I’m sure these people really do want to quit or else they wouldn’t have tried. Well, I’ll tell you why they failed…physical and/or psychological withdrawal symptoms. The fact is that these withdrawal symptoms are so strong for most people that they will finally say, “to hell with it,” and light up again.

Sure they may have tried the patch or gum, but that only handles the physical withdrawal. Or perhaps they tried hypnosis or mind control, but that only handles the psychological withdrawal symptoms.

In order to be successful, you have to alleviate both types of withdrawal at the same time! So how do you do it? Find out at our website. TheStopSmokingGuide.com will show you how to do it, walk you through every step of the way and support you before, during and after you stop smoking.

So if you tried to stop smoking for your New Years Resolution and failed, mosey on over to our Stop Smoking Website and find out how you can stop smoking once and for all.

The Stop Smoking Guide Opens Its Doors

Finally, the time has come to conduct our Grand Opening! We are so excited to get this website off the ground and rolling. We feel that the quicker we get it going, the more lives we can potentially save.

The blog (obviously) and the forum are now up and running, the Stop Smoking Article Directory is ready to go and our ebook sign up page is in full swing. Now all we need is for people to visit our site and make the decision to stop smoking once and for all.

Our Grand Opening is slated for Wednesday, December 27th, 2006. A PRWeb news release will be released in the AM.

Expect to see many more blog posts as we will be entering blog posts for every major new stop smoking news story that hits the presses. We are going to offer a unique perspective on these news stories. Most “ex-smokers” are the worst when it comes to trashing smokers. We, on the other hand, will look at the information from your perspective…as a smoker who wants to quit.

Well, that’s about it for now. We hope that you will help us get the forum and the blog comments going as well. If you have a stop smoking article or story, send it to us and we’ll post it in our article directory.

Until next time,

Allen Jones
