Chapter 1: Why Stop Smoking?
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
The reasons to stop smoking are endless when it comes to your health. We will discuss the health benefits in the next section.
What we want to talk about first are the other reasons you should stop smoking. I know we said we wouldn't get into a bunch of sappy "real-life" stories, but these are only here to serve as examples of what we want you to think about.
These are just a few of the stories we hear all the time. Now, imagine the things you can (and will) accomplish when you stop smoking.
Take as long as you need and think of the reasons why you want to quit. We don't mean medical reasons! Use the examples above as a guide. Some of you may already have the reason(s). Some of you may not. Either way, figure out your reasons, write them down and memorize them. We will be referring back to these reasons more and more as the next few days go by.
Be sincere and honest with yourself. This will only be for your eyes, so be as open and honest as you possibly can. If you cannot be honest about this now, you will have a much harder time as you continue through this guide. If you have children, use them as your motivating force! Nothing in the world is more important to anyone.
You will soon learn that one of the main goals of this guide is to make smoking cigarettes more and more uncomfortable as you move on. The reasons you have decided on will facilitate this goal at a later time.
From now on, for the rest of your life, every time you light up a cigarette think about the reasons you came up with above. As you smoke your cigarette, think about how, with each puff, you are pushing yourself further away from your goals. You will quickly notice that cigarettes are not quite as appealing as they were before you read this chapter!
Here is a quick list of a few other (secondary) reasons you may consider:

Once you begin to perform the exercise above, you may feel like trying to stop immediately, depending on how big your reasons to stop smoking are...but you can't. No matter how hard you try, no matter what you do, you just can't quit.
At this point, don't worry! After all, that is why you are reading this ebook, right? Keep smoking for now.but keep performing this exercise every single time you smoke a cigarette. We want you to be uncomfortable. We want you to be torn between your smoking and your reasons to stop smoking. We want you to think about this day in and day out for as long as you continue smoking.
As you continue this exercise over time, you may be tempted to stop doing it. It is of dire importance that you do not quit this exercise! As we discussed earlier, this guide and the things we ask you to do must be the number one thing in your life. You must perform this exercise without fail, every single time you smoke...until you stop smoking once and for all.
As you continue through this ebook, you will learn about many other reasons why you should quit smoking, but don't forget about the reasons you came up with in this chapter. They are the true reasons that you want to stop smoking. Anything else that you learn from here on out, although very important, will be secondary.

The second part of this chapter will cover the health benefits of quitting smoking.
When you think about the health benefits of quitting, chances are that you are thinking about the things that happen months and years after you quit...like lowering your risk of cancer.
Did you know that your body starts to experience benefits almost immediately after you quit? Take a look at the chart below. Within 20 minutes of your last cigarette, you already have increased blood flow and a "normal" blood pressure and heart rate. 20 MINUTES! That's all it takes for your body to begin healing itself.
The human body is a miraculous thing. Below you will see how your body heals itself after you stop smoking:
Health Benefits Of Quitting Smoking
Within 20 minutes |
Blood pressure and heart rate drop to a level close to that before your last cigarette. Blood flow increases to the extremities. |
After 8 hours |
Carbon Monoxide levels in your blood stream drop to normal level. |
After 24 hours |
Chance of heart attack begins to decrease |
2 weeks – 3 months |
Blood circulation improves and lung function increases up to 30% |
1 month – 9 months |
Coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue and shortness of breath decrease. Cilia in your lungs regain normal function giving your body the ability to expel mucus and reduce chances of bronchitis and pneumonia |
1 year |
Your risk of coronary heart disease is reduced to half that of a smoker |
5 years |
Risk of a stroke is reduced to that of a non-smoker 5-15 years after quitting |
10 years |
Lung cancer death rate is reduced to half that of a smoker. Risk of other cancers decrease |
15 years |
Risk of coronary heart disease is that of a non-smoker |
As you can see from this chart, quitting smoking is possibly the most important decision you will make in your entire life. In fact, some of you may already be asking yourself why any sensible person would be smoking cigarettes in the first place.
That is exactly what these first few chapters are here for, to place doubt in your mind as to why you are smoking at all. How could someone knowingly do this kind of damage to themselves and their families? You will learn why later in this ebook.
This was just a small list of the benefits you will experience after you quit smoking. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of other benefits that we did not even discuss. (Examples: Whiter teeth, no panic attacks when you run out of cigarettes, no "smoker's breath", enjoy the smell of food again, etc...)
As we continue on to the next chapter, we will discuss more facts and figures related to cigarette smoking. Keep in mind that as you learn more and are nearing your quit date, your fears will naturally increase. This is because you have been brainwashed into thinking that quitting smoking is an impossible thing to do. Do not be discouraged. It is not impossible. In fact, our system (if followed properly) will make it easy and painless for you. You will actually be ready and eager to stop smoking!

Note: After every chapter we will have a "Think About This When You Smoke" section. From now on, for the rest of your life, we require you to think about what you find in each chapter. As you finish each chapter, add the thoughts to the previous chapter. So after Chapter 3, you will be thinking about the ones from chapters 1-3 and so on. Smoke by yourself in order not to be interrupted and think about nothing else except these topics. This is an integral part of our system and must be done.
By the end of this ebook, you will be thinking about many things as you smoke your cigarette. The point is to continue making smoking increasingly uncomfortable for you.

Think About This When You Smoke:
From now on, whenever you light up a cigarette, think about the reasons you wrote down and memorized earlier in this chapter and concentrate on them as you smoke your cigarette. Also, think about the benefits you will encounter after you quit smoking.
